FUNCTIONS OF MANAGETMENT

Planning and decision making organizing and staffing, leading and controlling are the key functions of management. Let’s describes them:
PLANNING AND DECISION MAKING
Act of making schedule of works which are to be performed in future is known as planning. Planning refers to the activities for setting goals and preparing policies to achieve those goals. No work can be done without planning; planning generally refers to the act of forecasting goals, policy making, determination of programs, procedures, budgeting etc. decision making is the part of planning process that involves selecting a course of action from a asset of alternatives.
ORGANIZING AND STAFFING
Organizing means identifying and grouping the activities to be performed, assigning them among individuals and creating authority-responsibility relationship among them. It is a mechanism for purposeful action for implementation of the policies and programs it provides an integrated apparatus for the attainment of the predetermined goals. No organization can function without staff. Management should recruit right person in right place. Act of managing manpower required to an organization is known as staffing. Staffing relates to the act of selection and recruitment, placement, performance, evaluation, remuneration management and training etc. staff who are recruited should be skillful, efficient, dependant and honest.
LEADING
Another basic managerial function is leading. It is the set of processes used to get members of the organization to work together to carry on the interests of the organization. Leading helps to implement into action. It relates to the giving directions, promoting to staff and exchanging of information.
CONTROLLING
Process of evaluation of the activities of an organization is known as controlling. It is a fundamental task of management. If controlling is not effective, an organization cannot achieve its objectives. Controlling evaluates the objectives and achievement and help to take steps to correct deviations, if any. Planning and controlling are associated with each other controlling refers to the act of setting standard, evaluation of achievement and planning, explanation of objectives and achievement and correction of deviations.
