MEANING OF ORGANIZTION


Organization is a planned unit, deliberately structured for the purpose of attaining specific goals. It is formed by two or more persons. The word “Organization” is derived from “Organism”. It means the composition of various organs. Therefore according to this sense, organization is a composition of varies activities and departments. Organization is formed under certain rules and regulations. However some organization may be formed spontaneously.
Organizations are product of society. They are around us. They are religious organization, social organization, political organization and business organization. Many people work together is an organization to achieve common objectives. Organization allocates and defines duties responsibility and accountability of concern people or staff. It established a pattern of relationship among effort to be put, jobs to be done and work to be performed. It ensures team-work and avoids gap and overlapping functions. Different scholars and writers have defined organization. Some of main definitions are given as follows.
According to John R. Schermerhorn, Jr. “An organization is a collection of people, working together to achieve common purpose.
According to James D. Money, “Organization is the form of every human association for attainment of a common purpose.”
According to Kaith Devis, “Organization is any group of individuals, large or small, that is operating under the direction of executive leadership in accomplishment of certain common objectives.”
According to Chester I. Bernard. “Organization is a system of consciously co-ordinated of two or more persons.
In conclusion, organization is collection of people working together to attain common objective. Organization is formed under certain rules and regulations. It is lead by a leader. Staff or members of such organization perform their task for the attainment of common objectives. Duties, responsibilities and accountabilities of an organization member are predetermined. It ensures efficiency and optimum use of human efforts.
